Geography

The Astral Sea is a massive open void that extends for eternity. Most of it is empty, however in this void can be found matter broken off other plains, floating islands constructed out of rubble, and the gigantic remains of ancient long-dead deities.
The Astral Sea has no gravity. Instead, gravity is formed by the larger objects within the Astral Sea.
Despite the void, the air within the Astral Sea is breathable by most creatures. However Wildspace (see below) does not have its own air.
The Astral Sea is thought to fill the space between the other realms of existence. Where the planes and the Astral Sea overlap is called Wildspace. Most of the structures within the Astral Sea exist in or near the Wildspace.

Localized Phenomena

While time flows normally within the Astral Sea, the effects of time are much slower. Over a thousand years can pass but an individual will only be effected as if a day has passed. Because of this, individuals who live in the Astral Sea have to travel to another plane to have children and for them to grow up.
There are patches within the Astral Sea where spells and other magic operates in a wild or unexpected manner.
Powerful entities can split off a small portion of the Astral Sea in the process of creating their own demi-plane.
