Soldiers

When one thinks Soldiers, most people envision troops patrolling fortified walls, ready to bravely fight off any invaders. In reality, these instincts are the first thing trained out of new recruits. To be a soldier, is to be a coward. Do not lay down your own life, when you can take that of others instead.   The primary working area of soldiers is indeed the wall. But they are not put out in the open, since a single infiltrated Raider could far too easily snipe them. Instead, they will be located in dark areas, spying on the nearby terrain through small peepholes. Watchtowers will be heavily fortified, so a soldier is at little risk even when entering or leaving one.   Soldiers are also tasked with escorting Farmers to and from farmlands. Their job there is to take out any threats. What people never state explicitly, is that a fleeing Farmer is considered a threat. Nearly no settlement ever allows a resident to abandon their home.   Because of their important duties, Soldiers are often equipped with both firearms and body armour. Within the walls of a settlement, they are generally the only people allowed to carry firearms. Outside the walls, Scouts and Collectors also carry firearms. Farmers only carry their farming tools. It isn't a fair fight.
