Anatomy

Some trolls have tails, but that's a recessive gene and therefore rather uncommon.

Biological Traits

Hair

Hair can be white, blond, brown or black, but never red. It's usually very thick and men usually have thick beard growth, and both genders typically have a lot of body hair.

Eyes

Green and brown are the two common colours, with blue being extremely rare. Normal size iris and round pupils.

Ears

Very long, thin points that curve down slightly at the tips.

Rather big canines, but not quite tusks, and claw like nails.

Gender Ideals

Trolls have between three and five recognized genders, depending on region. Some regions have even more. Because of this, children are viewed as having "no gender" until they are old enough to understand the concept of gender, and may pick for themselves. It is not uncommon to change gender identity more than once during a lifetime.

Relationship Ideals

Trolls have a strong belief in family, and as such, marriage is a very big thing in their culture, and they haven't had the concept of divorce until fairly recently. Having children pre marriage is however not a negative thing. It just means there is another family member to love and care for.

Common Dress Code

A traditional troll folk dress is rather simple, with blouse, bodice and skirt, or shirt, vest and pants, with some slight variations depending on region. There isn't really any specific clothing appointed to any specific gender, but instead what decorations or accessories a person has is a way of presenting genders. These are fairly similar in most regions.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The belief in family and community has always been very strong, and trolls are known for being very tight knit in their families and to always support each other - sometimes through living in shared households, with the oldest inhabitants as their head of house.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

They have always been close to nature and many of their holidays revolve around the changing of seasons, or significant times during the year (mid winter, mid summer, harvest, first snow etc). And while they might not have gods, they believe in many different forms of spirits that guard over certain things in the world.

Common Taboos

Crimes that hurt the own family are punished the most severely. But if a whole family is found guilty of crimes, it may result in that family being exiled from their community.

History

Trolls are and have always been one of the most peaceful races, and have little to no history of wars or fighting.

Broad shoulders and long limbs, with fairly big hands and feet. A slightly hunched posture is a common occurrence.
