Hobbitkind

Hobbitkind are the oldest form of intelligent humanoids in the material realm. They were first discovered by the great dragons over sixteen millennia ago. Given their weakness and intelligence, they were drafted as servants instead of cattle. Hobbitkind performed their duties well as subservient beings, but there were always those who rebelled against the oppressors. Those hobbits were cast out of hobbit civilization as a kindness, as such signs of rebellion would otherwise be met with swift execution.   It is said that those hobbits outcast for their ambition and rebellious nature grew into humanity. As the pressure of the dragons was lifted from their shoulders, they were able to grow to their proper height. When humanity rebelled, Hobbitkind was freed from their subservience and was forced to find a place in the brave new world humanity was swiftly bringing about.   Ironically, their lives didn't change massively under human rule. They remained overlooked citizens, damp of ambition and a sense of adventure. However, their culture exploded across the common lands of the world. Their fun-loving mentalities and stereotypical sunny outlook on common life made them excellent neighbours to humanity, and it is rare to see a hobbit who hasn't a wealth of local friendships.   Goodness is an important trait in the eyes of most hobbits. They look for goodness in their friends and partners and expect it from their kin. Unlike humanity, who often equate worth to success. A commonly taught philosophy is that being a good person is to be at peace with your life. Freedom from the influences of hatred and pain.   Hobbitkind are naturally dexterous to make up for their lack of strength, and despite their small size, they have little trouble with most manual labour, making liberal use of beasts of burden in their everyday lives for tilling, hauling and hunting.   Hobbits continued to worship the Wyrm, even after attaining their freedom from the dragons, all but forcing humanity to accept him as a valid diety. In cities of Wyrm worship it's common to see hobbitkind in positions of power, a rare occurrence anywhere else. Hobbitkind living in the Theocracy are also likely to worship Arman for his connections to the commonfolk.   Hobbitkind who decide against the tide to take up a life of adventure and intrigue have the natural advantages of their natural dexterity, small size, hardy personality, and unassuming reputation. They're also known for their good fortune, though this is a simple stereotype.   Hobbitkind's close relationship with humanity often leads to procreation, and many mixed-blood citizens exist in the theocracy. These hybrids are known as Middlings.
