Quad-Sabered Lionsnake

A demonic beast that stalks the canyons and grasslands of the Demon Realm.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A mammalian quadruped with a long, thick tail ending in a snake's head. It has a feline appearance, with saber teeth on either side of its feline head, and additionally retractable venous fangs behind the front teeth. Like a snake, it is able to unhinge its jaw to swallow prey much larger than itself. Its tail has a secondary brain which allows for some independent thought. Its front paws resemble large feline paws with retractable claws, while its back legs are more reptilian with a large hook claw for climbing.

Biological Traits

Male lionsnakes have a thicker ruff of a mane around their shoulders and neck, ande female lionsnakes have stripes along their back.

Genetics and Reproduction

Lionsnakes reproduce sexually, with a gestation period of two years.

Growth Rate & Stages

Lionsnake cubs take five years to reach adult six, and an additional ten to reach sexual maturity.

Ecology and Habitats

Lionsnakes typically have large, spread out territories - creating dens near the tops of canyons and hunting on the grasslands.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Lionsnakes are obligate carnivores, hunting anything they can find. They only need to eat once a week or so - taking down prey before dragging it to their dens to swallow whole and digest.

Behaviour

Lionsnakes are deadly predators, even by demonic standards - their tails can both spit acidic venom up to fifty feet, while also creating poison clouds from a specialized stomach which can cause permanent blindness and damage to respiratory systems. Their back claws can easily eviscerate any prey attempting to sneak up behind them, and the venom of their feline mouth's fangs causes extreme pain and paralysis before death. As such, lionsnakes have a versatile set of hunting abilities.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Lionsnakes form very small packs, typically of one male and three to four females. The females take turns hunting at night, while the male defends their territory.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Lionsnake venom is potent, but can be distilled into various medicinal uses.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Lionsnakes are able to detect heat from their prey, and have an advanced sense of smell. Thier forked tongues allow them to taste subtle shifts in the atmosphere.
