Waste Hounds

A mammilian predator found in the Demon Realm.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A quadrupedal mammal with digitigrade front legs and ungilugrade back legs. They have a canid face with large ram horns, large ears, and short furry tails.

Biological Traits

Male waste hounds usually have large, more curled horns than female waste hounds. Female waste hounds also have small udders.

Genetics and Reproduction

Waste hounds reproduce sexually, with gestation lasting 6-8 months.

Growth Rate & Stages

Waste hounds reach adult size at ten years and sexual maturity at twenty.

Ecology and Habitats

Waste hounds are native to the dry badlands of the Volcanic Wastes, and as such have adapted to go long periods without water.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Waste hounds are omnivores that survive primarily on the scrubgrass of the Wastes, supplementing with prey.

Behaviour

Waste hounds are pack hunters that silently stalk their prey until the right moment, then attack in a burst of speed.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Waste hounds live in small packs of 4-7 members, usually in separate bands of males and females outside of mating season. The strongest of each tend to lead their respective packs, with only the leaders participating in mating.

Domestication

The priestesshood of Sciekles located in the wastes has a population of tamed waste hounds, and those who prove their worth at her temple are occassionally gifted a breeding pair. As such, many powerful military lineages throughout the realm have maintained domesticated breeds of the hounds. Still, they are spread far and by no means common - and as such a symbol of prestige.   The Great Temple of Sciekles in Mesmavas has their own larger population of waste hounds.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The temple of Sciekles in the Volcanic Wastes uses waste hound milk as a food stock.
