Monongahela National Forest

A national forest located in the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia.

The Monongahela National Forest includes some of the highest mountain peaks in the state, including the highest, Spruce Knob, the highest point in the Allegheny Mountains. It is primarily a second growth forest, after the land was heavily deforested in the early 20th century. Approximately 75 species of tree grow in the forest, including the red spruce, balsam fir, and mountain ash.
