Laura Barton and a friend are mugged. When Laura tries to protect her friend, the mugger shoves her into a wall, breaking her knee.
Even after it healed, the injury left her with a weakness in her right leg which prevented her from working as an acrobat, and she was forced to abandon her career, instead taking over the running of a consession stand for the circus.
