The physical and verbal abuse Bruce Banner suffered at the hands of his father lead him to develop a dissociative disorder, and eventually DID.
Although Bruce does not remember the first appearance of the Hulk and so the exact date of his first appearance is unknown, on the 28th March, his mother recorded in her diary that Bruce had told her about "the other boy" who helped him when his father grew violent.
