Allied forces, including the
US Army 69th, 92nd and 107th Infantry, and the
British 3rd Parachute Brigade, assault the town of Azzano San Paolo, in Southern Italy.
They expected to face German Infantry and tank divisions. Instead, they found the town defended by soldiers armed with experimental HYDRA energy weapons.
The result was a rout, with most of the Allied troups saved from death only because Arnim Zola wanted prisoners of war for experimentation and forced labour.
