Herbert Kibblewhite

A former career officer, who went to the Coalition Space Fleet Academy and became an Ensign and got an assignment in Military Intelligence, investigating an officer believed to be corrupt. The officer under investigation somehow framed Kibblewhite and once he was cleared of the charges demoted him to Master Chief Petty Officer and assigned him to guard the Aeolus City Space Port for the rest of his career.

While Kibblewhite was temporarily incarcerated his pregnant wife died under suspicious circumstances, as well as the unborn baby. To protect himself from further heartbreak Herbert developed a persona of a being a curmudgeon and avoided developing relationships with other people.

During his assignment for Military Intelligence Herbert was assigned as a contact with an undercover operative aboard the pirate/smuggler ship Procrustes . Through this contact, Herbert learned that the Captain of the ship was Finian Brooke. The young man, Dave Keller, who was later hanged for being a space pirate was just a kid who ended up in bad company but was too young and naive to have committed the crimes for which he was hanged.
