Tyndareus Lock

To minimize the amount of excavation needed to build the Thyestes Canal, they only did as much as was necessary for ships of a certain size to be able to travel the canal, and instead built canal locks on either end. In order to maintain the water level in the middle section and keep the locks working they connected the canal to a nearby lake, which got its water from a river that flowed from a mountain range on the southern continent.   On the west side of the city, the canal started from the old docks in Tyndareus and less than fifty meters into the canal was the first lock, named for the neighborhood that it was in, thus the name Tyndareus Lock. On either side of the lower gate steps lead up to the sides of the lock.
