Carries a rapier and a walking stick, both of which can be used as weapons. Always has a healing potion to hand.

Personal history
Ewald was born on the north eastern region of Frankia, to a a soldier and his wife. He has never given details to anyone outside his close family circle of close friends about this. When growing up, he learned how to fight, quickly learning sword techniques and unarmed combat. This is something he is still proud of today.
Looking to follow in his father's footsteps he joined the Frankish army and became a Sargent-At-Arms pretty quickly, and helped teach most of his regiment how to fight correctly.
After a while he was transferred to Parisius and tasked with guarding the castle of Charlemagne. Here he stayed until he retired from the military, and took a job as a fencing teacher. During this time his wife Alberta started training as a form of self-defence. She was a Saxon by birth and had been sent to Parisius as part of a peace delegation. After a brief courtship they married in a standard Roman Catholic ceremony, though she still has some pagan beliefs. They have no children, the one they did, a daughter, died of an unknown illness at 3 years old.
When the Franks took control of Austria, they seen the chance of maybe starting anew in Wien where many new nobility were moving there, and knew that their experiences could be potentially helpful to the city.
After they moved Ewald, was approached by the nobles to become the burgomaster as he came from a humble beginning and had advanced enough in society & experience he could potentially fulfil the role very well.
So far he has took to it, and seems content to do this job for the foreseeable future.
Education
Beside military education, does not have much. The exception is that he can read and write quite well, especially in Latin, and Frankish.
Employment
He has had quite an extensive military history, especially in the north east of Frankia, and then Parisus.
Then taught swordsmanship & unarmed combat.
This was followed by becoming burgomaster of Wien.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Ewald has been rewarded by his superiors at least twice for bravery on the battlefield in the past.
He has also been blessed with a little gold due to teaching some lesser nobles on 'how to fight like a good Frank'.
Being made burgomaster he has shown that the nobles of Wien respect his ability to be tough but fair, and been awarded a half decent living expense in the city.
Failures & Embarrassments
Had lost a battle to the Saxons at one point and most of his comrades were killed.
Mental Trauma
Lost his 3 year old daughter to an illness and never truly recovered from this.

Always willing to learn a little bit about the outside world. Can be gruff and belligerent even pig headed, but also flexible.

Dislikes Saxons but willing to even give them a chance. Also will give pagans a chance too if they respect others.
