Of Ships and Cities
Fleec gets the chance to travel to Rome & the Vatican City, then on to Tunisia.
Plot points/Scenes
George the Monk will set up the shipping manifest & papers for the team along with a couple of Papal State guards and get the documents from Preator de Angelo. There they will sail down the river into the Mediterranean and make their way to Tunisia. When a few miles out from Tunis the ship may get hit by a storm at sea and a young sea serpent is seen tailing the ship. It will try to take advantage of any storm that rolls in. He is likely to meet in the Papal States a character called Freyja Modir Var. She is there on her own business.
He meets a character called Nasir Akhroun-Badawi Tunis, who is in the city for business purposes. Exactly what business is up to Nasir.
If the ship is sunk, they are still able to make it to shore as long as the sea serpent is fended off, otherwise they make it safely to port. When there they are granted basic visitor status and can freely move around the city of Tunis, and the remains of Carthage. Fleec can spot a couple of marks here & there left by early members of the Snow clan in any old stonework showing there is a connection here. If they ask around about the Black Pyramid and the old Snow mines, they will attract the attention of the guards and local Elves & Half-Elves. The former will take them to the governor's assistant Mohammod al-Algier, who will tell them he is aware of the rumours about the mines, that a scroll of the Deeds were stolen & accidentally destroyed by the cousins of Fleec. He will point out there is still a copy in the old city of Byblos in the Levant that can be used by a close blood relative, and rumours persist of another hidden in the Carthage Quarter.. He can also state that the odd visitor passes through looking old artefacts tied to the black dragon & the Black Pyramid, and they can travel to Alexandria by ship or with the caravans or Bedouin peoples. The Elves & Half-Elves will say the same.
It is pointed out too, that if they take a look at the nearest mountains, in one of the passes there is a ruined temple to Baal some shady characters still use that is close to the old mine entrances, and contains two types of substances never seen by the average person. A small nugget of black greasy rock, and an obsidian splinter of rock with Draconic figures on it. They are warned that the area is prone to bandits, rebels, and far worse. There is a chance if explored that they might encounter Yuan-Ti, or Draconians in a rare instance created by the Yuan-Ti or a dragon.
If Fleec wants to make a claim he will have to find one of two remaining scrolls, and have it notarised in front of the Governor and the local Imam, or a representative of both. If this is done. Any mines found can be claimed by Fleec.
Also, he hears of the Silk Road. The locals are able to tell him that he can find representatives of traders dealing in goods going up & down it in the merchant quarter and they can send him to the Levant, the Arabian Peninsula, Egypt, or the Byzantium Empire, and they can set up deals there to become a trader, guard or other post.
