Saxon Infantry

An ethnic military structure. A Saxon army is usually made up of Fyrdmen units, many of which is armed with spears, Seaxs, shields and light armour. Some are armed with axes, a few are armed with swords. This depends on the unit, where they are from & what regular jobs they do, and also where they are in the Saxon hierarchy, with swords being a sign of prestige. A few units are armed with slings or short bows, and Seaxs, forgoing the shields, and acting as skirmisher or archer units. Most such units are led by the local leader of the community they come from, and everyone possible is expected to be able to fight, train & if need be to be able to maintain their own weaponry & armour.
