Personal history
Cathy was born in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts to a loving family. An only child, she prides herself on presentation and personal achievements.
One of those achievements is her daughter, Jani. A young Autistic girl, Cathy raised her alone when her husband filed for divorce a few years into Jani's life. Cathy threw herself into raising her child, making sure she was protected and cared for -- especially knowing she wasn't like 'normal' children and would be ostracised as a result. As Jani grew older, she pushed back against her mother's tough love, becoming distant and rebellious: but Cathy knew this was just a phase she was going through.
When Jani went missing, Cathy was distraught. The girl had spent her whole life relying on her mother -- there was no way she could survive out there on her own. Knowing the police would only stall and manhandle her child, she instead found Elyan, begging him for help in searching for her lost girl.
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR RECKLESS TRUTH
When it was discovered that Jani had run away from home and been kidnapped by The Controller, Cathy was left in the dark. Elyan assured he was still looking for her, but Cathy knew better. When she was approached by the Controller, all her worst fears came true. Jani was dead, killed by the Controller's experiments -- but he assured her it was for the greater good. Jani was special, and with Cathy's help, he could assure no child died needlessly this way ever again -- and no child would suffer mental illness or disability.
Believing his words, Cathy agreed to join him, accepting that he was a living God sent to save humanity. She took his experiments with grace and good faith, becoming a goddess in her own right: the goddess of broken children. Though she was killed by one of those children, she died knowing she would ascend to something greater.
