The Gritjaw Brotherhood
The Gritjaw Brotherhood was born out of Kragar's eccentric belief in his own magical prowess and a desire to forge his own destiny. Before founding the Brotherhood, Kragar was part of a renowned mercenary company known as the Ironhowl Brigade, a band of skilled warriors and battle-hardened veterans. Despite his towering presence and impressive combat skills, Kragar always felt like an odd fit within the Brigade. While his comrades valued strength, strategy, and discipline, Kragar became obsessed with the idea that he possessed hidden magical powers.
His first "revelation" came during a particularly brutal battle against a goblin horde. Kragar had picked up a boulder and hurled it at a cluster of goblins, and just as the rock hit, a small earthquake shook the ground. Kragar was convinced he had summoned the tremor with earth magic. His fellow mercenaries dismissed it as coincidence, but Kragar was undeterred.
Later, during a violent thunderstorm, Kragar raised his staff to the sky in frustration, cursing his foes. A bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree, setting it ablaze. This, too, Kragar attributed to his growing magical powers, despite the laughter of his comrades. Finally, in one last bizarre stroke of fate, Kragar set fire to an enemy camp by swinging a torch during a raid. The torch accidentally knocked over a lantern, igniting the tents. Kragar was convinced that he had summoned the flames with "fire magic."
Frustrated by the Ironhowl Brigade's refusal to acknowledge his "magical potential" and weary of being underestimated, Kragar left the company. He set out to form his own band of mercenaries—one where flair, showmanship, and his unique talents could shine. Thus, the Gritjaw Brotherhood was born, named after Kragar’s habit of clenching his teeth in concentration when performing his “spells.”
Kragar's rules for the Gritjaw Brotherhood reflected his larger-than-life persona. The company attracted a ragtag group of adventurers, rogues, and outcasts, all drawn to Kragar’s infectious confidence and flamboyant leadership. Under his banner, the Gritjaw Brotherhood became a feared and admired mercenary company, not for their strategy or strength alone, but for their fearless style, willingness to flaunt their wealth, and Kragar’s "magical" leadership. While most knew Kragar wasn’t a real mage, few could argue with the success of his ridiculous antics and bold charisma.
