The Comical Mercenary (a.k.a. Greedy Fuck)
Origins
Making his own way through the world, Fitzwell never found a place where he couldn't find profit. Spending most of his time in taverns, where he would play his many instruments, tell stories of ancient heroes or cracking jokes to make the patrons laugh. The people would then show their appreciation, in coin. Fitzwell loved getting rewards from the happy people he had either helped or entertained. One night he was sitting with some patrons in small tavern, one of which had lost an eye the day before. As Fitzwell finished a long, drawn-out story he patted said patron in the back as he laughed. Suddenly a light shone from underneath the man's bandages. When he removed them they saw that it had been healed. Consumed with gratefulness he showered Fitzwell in gold.
Since that day Fitzwell has constantly been searching for new ways to either entertain, heal and help people and society as a whole, in order to then be rewarded. Were he to meet a traveler in need of healing, Fitzwell would not hesitate for a second before offering himself to help. For a price of course. This behavior gave him a reputation for being greedy and selfish. Some even say that he would sell his own mother for the right price. This could not be further from the truth. Fitzwell would never hurt an innocent or make a person sad. He was a kind person at heart, even if he never did anything for free.
Gallows of Madness
In his search for customers to entertain and profit, he made his way to Saringallow, a small city on scaelorian border. There he found himself in the company of a zimean landsknecht, a dwarven musketeer and an elven spiritualist. Together they uncovered the plans of a demonic entity. They later found its base of operations in an abandoned house that previously was the home of a devil-worshipping baron and baroness. After defeating the demon they were forced to flee the now collapsing house. During this escape, a trapped and desperate creature grabbed Fitzwell. Realizing that he would not be able to escape, Fitzwell threw his valuables towards his comrades. For the first time in his life, he chose to give up his valuables. Hoping that his new companions would be able to find joy in them. Then he cast one last spell on himself. He started to laugh, a laugh that could be heard by his friends until the moment of his death.
