Session 19: Fraternal Sacrifice

General Summary

On the beaten ground where a party had taken place the night before, the party found themselves in a sombre setting. The broken eye had been taken from them by a frisky dryad who had charmed Quinumo the night before. At a loss as for what to do next, a discussion began, which ended in Julian deeming them all heathens, jumping on his horse, and leaving for Oakenhold. The rest of the party went over to the place where the dryad was last seen to look for tracks or traces as to where she might have disappeared. Aurora managed to find a plethora of tracks leading south. Meanwhile, Bork managed to find a scent to follow in the same direction.   After tracking the fey for a while, and Aurora somehow convincing herself that they were going in the wrong direction, they approached the northern parts of the Feyfire Forest. With the large treeline creating a wall in front of them, the party made sure they were ready to delve back into the giant forest. Afterwhich, they continued onwards. After another hour of walking into the forest and following the tracks of the dryads, they found a clearing with three dryads relaxing in the shade. One of them was the one they had searched for. Quinumo lost his temper and stormed into the clearing, accusing the dryad as he went. The other two dryads quickly disappeared in fear, but the third not only stayed but seemed surprisingly calm.   She told them that she had sold the amulet and the gold for a magical branch. She didn't remember the name of her contacts but described him as an elf with long blonde hair bore the symbol of a fairy. The mark of the Silvestra Numina. The QQQ asked the dryad to show them the way to this individual, despite Quinumo's wishes to just attack her. After being led for a few hours, and Trinky getting a bit closer to Aurora, the party found themselves on the edge of a large Silvestra Numina camp. Too large to just barge in. After asking the dryad for further help and being rejected, the fey creature left.   In order to get a closer look, Ravojhan used his magic to make Bert the Pseudodragon invisible. He then sent the dragon into the camp to spy the area for them. As he searched the camp he found a larger tent, outside of which was a familiar figure. That of Losandros Silverwind, the blonde-haired captain of the Silvestra Numina. After the captain had spoken to some guards he headed into his tent. Wishing to find out more about the whereabouts of the amulet, the dragon followed him inside. as he passed into the tent, they realized that the tent was magical and much larger on the inside than on the outside. Through the eyes of Bert, Ravojhan witnessed the captain activating a magical mirror, through which he spoke to the hag resident to the Autumn Woods, Aunty Ingerwald. An arrangement was made where the Silvestra Numina would bring the Broken Eye to her cabin back in Aeryon and she would give them power in return.   After they had finished Bert saw the elf put the amulet on a chest, then move a monkey statue and a candlestick that were situated next to it. When the elf had left the chest and fallen into a meditative state, the dragon moved up to try and nab the amulet. When he touched it, however, the monkey statue's eyes began to glow and from its mouth shot a beam of necrotic energy that turned the familiar to dust and alerted the captain. The party made a break for it and fled about thirty minutes south of the camp. There they began to plan what to do next.   With an understanding of the layout of the camp looked like, they wished began to form a plan. As Apeiros told them about a scroll that would allow him to make a teleportation circle that could get them out of the camp and back to their clearing quickly and easily. But to do so, they needed a diversion. Thus, the plan was: Trinky would use Aurora's magical cloak to create a distraction and get the Captain Losandros out of his tent. Ravojhan would then use his magic to make Apieros and Aurora invisible. The two of them would then sneak into the tent to steal the Amulet back, taking good care not to set off any traps. They would then attempt to sneak out, but as a plan B, they would use the teleportation circle to escape from inside the tent. Ravojhan, Quinumo and Bork would stay behind unless something would go wrong.    After Apieros prepared the circle and they had travelled back north to the camp, Trinky donned the cloak and used it to disguise herself as an old travelling merchant. Under the fake name Radiatoor she approached the guards. Whether it was through a stroke of brilliance on Trinky's behalf or sheer luck is unknown, but the name rang familiar, and the guards hurried to fetch Losandros Silverwind to meet with this mystical figure. The rest of the party got to work and soon thereafter Aurora and her brother snuck into the captain's tent. Inside they found the mirror, the chest, and of course the Broken Eye. Whilst Aurora investigated the area for any traps outside of the monkey statue on the chest, Apieros prepared the teleportations circle. He then used Auroras quartz crystal to create the connection between the two circles.    When they had made sure that there was no other threat in the area, Aurora and Apieros turned the monkey statue next to the amulet in the exact way that Ravojhan had described. With precise movements, they managed to disarm the trap. Aurora then reached for the Broken Eye, and just as she grabbed it, the candlestick next to it stretched out and bound them in place. It also seemed to set off a loud alarm, and Trinky saw how Losandros ordered the guards to his tent. He then turned to her and in suspicion, he ordered her restrained before he too ran towards his tent.    Apieros and Aurora looked at each other. Apieros gave his sister a serious look told her that he could dispel the magic that was binding her and that she would have to hurry through the circle before. He could then close it behind her. Aurora, tears in her eyes, agreed. There was no other way. Apieros uttered the spell and the restrains let her go. Just as guards entered the tent, she looked over at her brother and said:
I love you brother!
He responded that she loved her too before she disappeared into the circle. She then found herself in the clearing to the south, the Broken Eye in hand.    As a guard approached to arrest Trinky, Quinumo saw that something was up and ordered Bork to fetch his master. The guard turned around towards the charging worg, just as Trinky drew her daggers and stabbed him in the spine, mortally wounding him. She then jumped up on Bork and rode out of the camp. They also picked up Ravojhan and Quinnie along the way. When they finally made it back to the clearing they found just Aurora next to the closed teleportation circle. She was crying. Trinky, feeling bad for the half-elf as they realized what must have happened, embraced her. A moment of silent mourning was held before they continued west, out of the forest. One man short. After a few hours they reached the Mage's Road between Freywharf and Oakenhold. Realizing they needed a safe place to rest after what had just happened. They instead headed south for another thirty minutes, to the place known as the Treetop Inn.
