The United Commonwealth of the United Kingdom and Her Colonies

In the distant future of the 3rd millennium, the galaxy has become a vast and treacherous frontier. All the major powers of humanity have expanded beyond the solar system and are laying claim to countless worlds. In this era of neo-colonisation, one of the greatest empires to emerge is the United Commonwealth of The United Kingdom and her Colonies. Born just five hundred years ago, she is the youngest, but her might is now unmatched.
For over a century, the United Kingdom refrained from expanding beyond the confines of the solar system, whilst the rest of humanity had already begun to populate the Orion arm. But the Treaty of Maastricht (2256) was broken in 2331, when the United Kingdom launched a cataclysmic war to sever the heads of the other interstellar empires by capturing Earth. Within six months, they fully occupied the planet, and within ten months, they had taken over the entire solar system. The other powers, caught off guard by the sudden aggression, were unable to mount a defense. But their defeat would not go unanswered. In response to this blatant act of aggression, the United States of America Aegis and the Pan-American Conglomerate declared war on the United Kingdom. The ensuing Second War of Maastricht was brutal, and the outcome was uncertain. However, Commonwealth countries earthly lands had been spared in the first war, and they rallied around the United Kingdom, giving her access to space. This allowed the war to continue, and before long, the United Kingdom was at the USA's front door. Despite the Americans' valiant resistance, they eventually fell after forty years of deep space war. The annexation of the United States of America Aegis was complete. With America out of the fight, the Pan-American Conglomerate sued for peace, leading to the signing of the Peace of New DC in 2371. The defeated parties signed the Articles of Commonwealth in 2376, which set in writing the groundwork for the New Commonwealth, including the federal and supersector powers, and geographic locations.
For nearly five hundred years the Commonwealth maintained an easy peace, but it wasn't to last.
Rebellions and revolts have been spring up all across the galaxy, and the Ministry of Governmental Excellence, one of the four main federal departments, created a military arm to put them down by force. The Ministry of Defence, responsible for the protection of the Commonwealth from external threats, also had its work cut out for it, as the aliens and other human countries posed a constant threat. In one such example, in the tiny backwater at the core end of the Orion arm, a small colony called the Falklands was under attack by its neighbor, the Argentinian Colonies of the Pan-American Conglomerate. The Ministry of Defence had decided to send a brand new colony corps, The 1st Solent Corps, into the fray to hone their skills and tactics in the harsh heat of war. Their Commanding Officer, Colonel Alastair Macgregor, an old hand at warfare, had been given a simple order: capture the final bastion of resistance, Port Stanley, and end this war once and for all.
