L-1812 Sniper Rifle
A long range mass driver used as the Commonwealth's Sniper/Anti-Material rifle.
Although the EM-X series of rifles are incredibly accurate to 1000 metres or more and transfer a minimum of 3GJs of thermal energy to a target, vapourising most targets, it is possible to shield targets using a mixture of reflective surfaces and heat sinks.
So as a work around to this Colt Commonwealth designed and built, in 2740, a rifle that uses a scaled down version of the now ubiquitous BAE Systems Point Defence Railgun, the L-1812.
Unlike its contemporary, the EM-X series and indeed its predecessor the L-1776 series sniper rifles, the L-1812 has never had a major redesign in its 200 operational life.
Found through out the Army and Naval forces the L-1815 has an effective range of close to 15 kilometres by launching its 100 gram steel/tungsten projectile at mach 15 plus change. Due to the electromagnetic driver this speed can be dialled right down to subsonic speeds, with a commensurate drop in range.
