Xanti: Deep Drifter
The Deep Drifter is one of the most nightmarish predators on Planet: Xanti. These creatures lure individual prey away from their herds or larger groups while they are out on the ice, strike through the ice, and pull them down into the frozen waters beneath. Though the torso and head of the creatures are only slightly larger than the size of an elongated Human, the length of their body has been said to be anywhere from 10 to 50ft in length. They are known for their transparent, ice-crystallike skin and their entrancing, mesmerizing appearance which has been said to fascinate the onlookers in pure horrific wonder until it strikes.
One of the few saving graces of these apex predators is their limitations. It has been proven that they are incapable of surviving out of the frozen waters beneath the icy surface, and though they slice through the thick layers of ice beneath the surface to get between the frozen layers, they are only seen in areas of the Slush where it is said that there is "deeper water" extending far down. They also seem to primarily nocturnal, only striking during the night or when the sun is obstructed. They also tend to be cowardly against groups and flee upon any true conflict against them on the surface. Still, these nightmarish creatures haunt the Slush and pull many natural creatures and unaware Humans to their deaths. They are only historically seen in the Xanti: The Slush and rumors of sightings on the Dark Side of Xanti have never been confirmed.
In combat, these creatures have mesmerizing appearances and long, sharp, webbed claws. Their beaklike mouths are actually contained in the back of their warped heads behind layers of tentacle-like prehensile pseudofins. In the water, they are agile and nimble and tend to use the full length of their body to overwhelm smaller prey.
