Magic Cores
The core is an organ found in the body of all people. In most cases, it is found under the breastbone and is the source of people’s Magic. Most people have small weak cores and little magical energy, normally only enough to power magic items, but some have larger stronger cores and lots of magical energy that can be used to cast spells.
The core develops in childhood and if it isn’t encouraged or cultivated it will not grow, resulting in smaller amounts of magic and smaller size. Children that are exposed to magic when young and are taught about it, develop greater amounts of magic and larger cores. Sometimes, children are born with or naturally develop stronger cores, or the opposite; This trait can run in families.
When people use magic their inner core glows slightly with the more power being used the brighter the light. This does not happen if the caster is using dark magic, in fact the opposite happens as the core is the place that the Dark Marks.
The core decays rapidly after death and is hard to preserve after death. This has made it hard for scientists to study the organ and they don't know how exactly it works.
If someone overused their magic too much it may cause burning on the sternum and chest and may cause burn out resulting in them no longer being able to use magic or in a worst-case scenario may result in death.
Sometimes the core may develop differently, like being in a different position or weirdly shaped. These conditions normally result in difficulties using magic. If the core is in a different spot, like over the Brest bone rather than behind, it may result in people overusing magic easier than others and pain and burns when magic is used. If the core is oddly shaped this may result in the person having difficulties using magic and their strength and control over it fluctuating.
When those with strong cores die and are buried, glowing Star Flowers grow on their graves. The more powerful the deceased's core and magic the bigger and more powerful the flowers. The flowers are used as a healing medicinal herb.
