Spirits

Spirits live in the spirit realm, a world parallel to the physical, human realm. spirits can see into the human world from the spirit world, because to them, they are only separated by a thin veil, they can even travel between these two worlds with ease, although they can only stay in the human world for mere minutes, unless something, or someone, binds them to it. There are four main types of spirits, and they all have a talent of which there are also four. Each spirit type has its own quirks and skills, some incredibly varied and others more predictable, all of them unique in their own way.  

The Bond

Spirits can't touch the world themselves, they have no physical body, however, the bond changes this. Spirits can bond with a human. This grants magic to the human and the spirit gains an avatar in the human world. The bond increases in strength as the two develop their abilities, and as they grow more and more in sync with each other. As they grow stronger, so their mana pool will expand, and they will be capable of grander things.   Spirits aren't power themselves, they are conduits of power, and that's also why they need a human. Without one, they can't conduct power anywhere.   Because spirits can see easily into the human world, it is easy for them to pick out a worthy candidate, when they have chosen, they will travel to the human world, and offer their bond to the human they chose. It is possible to reject the bond, but the spirits will take offense to this, and it is not likely that another will give you a chance.   When the Bond is accepted, the human will greatly improve their mana, just by virtue of being bonded to a spirit.  

Talents

Talent describes the way in which a spirit allows for magic, this will have an incredible impact in the kind of mage you will become.  

Conduction

The most common talent for spirits, this simply allows the mage to cast spells, the spirit here, is an agent for conduction, from the goddess, to the spirit, and then through the mage. The type of spell depends of the spirit of course.  

Familiar

The Spirit will appear in the world physically and cast spells on the behalf of the mage, as well as assisting them in other matters. It is not impossible for familiars to still use conduction, but it is easier for them to cast the spells through themselves.

Manifestation

Spirits with this talent will manifest into the physical world in the shape of a tool or weapon with magical abilities. This manifest object will be honed and improved with the mages development, and new abilities are learned over time.

Fusion

The spirit fuses with the mage, and the mage gains the ability to take on the shape of the spirit in conjunction with their own, which grants them great abilities that can be explored and developed over time.

The four spirit types  

passion

Spirits of passion will sense what truly drives you in life and use that for magic, and use that to turn it into a style of magic. Perhaps the passion spirit chose that particular individual because they are such passionate souls. a lot of warriors are passionate about their weapon of choice, and because a lot of passion spirits are manifestos, they will often manifest as the tool or weapon the mage is passionate about. but this is not the only way for passion spirits to operate. They are not very common, but they are greatly coveted due to their flexibility and unpredictability.  

Beast

There are many different animal spirits, each with their own flair and personality. They can be classified into generalized groups of similar animals with pretty much the same magic style. For example, all canines will focus on their tracking and endurance, felines on stealth, bovines on toughness, etcetera, each individual might do this in their own unique way, and spirits always adapt to their mage and their fighting style, as all change and evolve over time. Among beast spirits, the talents of familiar, and fusion are the most common, which is why you see many mages with a beast spirit, walking around with strange exotic pets, which are actually their spirits.  

Elemental

Elemental spirits use the power of the seven magical elements to cast magic, these spirits are quite common, and therefore their magic is a well-known art. each element has to be learned individually, and usually, any single mage will focus their efforts on one or two main elements in order to become a true master, as it is impossible to learn all the elements to perfection in one lifetime. different elemental spirits might specialize in different elements, which will be the first they teach to their mage, but the mage's personality also has an impact on which come easier to the mage, and which don't.   Read more about Ellemental Magic  

Arcane

The arcane spirits allow their mages to draw upon the hidden forces of the world, there are various different arcane spirits, each of them exceptionally picky in their choice of mage. The abilities that are granted by these spirits are often misunderstood, if they are understood at all, because of their rarity,  

Sovereigns and Knights

It is known that the spirits on Theem and nearby regions are quite different from the rest, these are the 36 sovereigns, who rule the continent, and the rest are called knights, it isn't yet fully understood why they are different, but they arent associated with any of the main four spirit classifications.
