Elemental Magic

The Elements

Elementals are the most common spirit type and are therefore also the best understood and most well-known by the magical community. There are seven magical elements, and each of these elements is associated with a gem or precious stone that is used as a catalyst for spells, when an elemental casts a spell, their used stones light up, from a dim glow to a bright light, depending on the strength of the spell. The elements are all different, unique, and powerful in their own way, but an elemental mage never gains access to all of them, instead, each elemental mage focuses their time and energy on perfecting one or two of the elements, those that suit their style of magic the best, although it isn't uncommon for mages to attempt to learn basic spells in other elements as a surprise weapon, and to gain an edge over their enemies. Not all elements are equal, some are more powerful and some less so, or they might be powerful in different ways, and the difficulty of learning them is not equal, some being more challenging than others.

Fire

Stone: Ruby
The element of heat and flame is associated with the ruby, a gem as red and crimson as the flames it brings forth. However, this magic is only capable of creating heat, and setting of ignition, it is not capable of conjuring flammable matter out of thin air. The true skill here tho, is the ability to store flammable matter as a fuel source inside the rubies, which can then be drawn upon to create and manipulate fire, which is why it is often mistakenly thought that fire mages can conjure flames from nothing. This storage with rubies involves the creation and maintenance of personal pocket dimensions connected to the spirit world.

Venom

Stone: Emerald
The element of poisons, toxins, and venoms, is associated with emeralds. This element allows for the creation of powerful magical toxins for a great variety of purposes. The stronger the spell, the stronger and more potent the resulting toxin, whatever it may be. These toxins could destroy living or dead cells, human or otherwise, they can be made to paralyze or mess with the workings of the mind. The more complex these toxins, and their workings, the more mana and effort it will take to create them, not to mention skill. A master of the venom element might even be able to design toxins designed not to harm people, but the afflictions that ail them.

Tidal

Stone: Sapphire
The magical element of the moon, sea, and tides, is associated with sapphire stones and allows for water manipulation and control. Water is both a force of life and an agent of destruction. It is needed to sustain any living organism, and it is capable of carving valleys in rock, and this is reflected by this element's powerful and varied set of uses, as it can give life, and take it away. Water is not as fast or explosive as other elements, instead, it is a tool for the patient, giving them victory over time, rather than going at it quickly. For those with the patience and skill to master this element, awaits great power, rivaled by few.

Light

Stone: Diamond
The element of light is associated with the most valuable of stones, diamonds, which are known even outside of the realm of mages for their ability to bend and refract light. Light mages are able to not only create light, but to manipulate and bend it for the sake of creating very convincing visual illusions, a skill that takes many years to master, and only a rare few are actually any good at it.

Signal

Stone: Amethyst
The magical element of communication is associated with amethysts, it allows for the creation of magical links between not only magically charged amethysts, but with enough practice a mage can even create connections with other people's minds, allowing them to insert messages, and even extract information. It can also be used to track connected crystals and minds.

Sight

Stone: Opal
The element of sight is associated with the strange and colorful stone known as opal. Mages who have mastered this element are known for their tracking abilities, as their sight is keen, and can see things hidden from the view of others, as nothing can hide from their sight. seeing abilities, being able to see the past present, and future, or parts of it at least, because they can see possible futures, and use that knowledge to manipulate it.

Life

Stone: Amber
The element of life itself is associated with amber, stones formed from the petrified sap of plants. Mages are able to use this element to bring temporary, or semi-permanant life to otherwise inanimate objects, which is mot commonly used to create golems, which are capable of performing a wide variety of tasks. The better the golem, the more complicated and precise the tasks they can complete. The better the amber stones used to create them, the more intelligent they will be. Golems require both amber gems to be built, they will hold the magic, keeping them active, and the caster still needs amber gems to cast the spells to activate them. However, once created, golems exist independently from the mage who made them, and they will keep living until they run out of mana, or they are turned off by a mage who knows how, although it is famously difficult to turn off a golem that isn't yours. Golems only need the presence of mana to keep them alive, they don't use up the mana, which makes it theoretically possible to make immortal golems. However, no one currently has the knowledge to create containers that don't leak mana.
