Adventure Summary Session 1

General Summary

Adventurers:
Saban – Human Varisian Cleric
Shialu – Elf Wizard, Familiar – Obisidian “Sid” – Razorclaw
Gorin – Dwarf Fighter
Visuma – Human Shoanti Druid, Animal Companion – Kek – Fire Pelt Leopard
Ragnar – Elf Ranger
Pandereos – Human Chelish Rogue
Tharuzall – Half Orc Barbarian

The adventure begins when everyone is responding to a Mercantile League writ requesting Caravan Guards. In walks Paul Bunyan, a human logger who asks everyone to gather their gear and meet him in the office in 30 minutes. Each adventurer introduced themselves to each other. Seems like Saban and Gorin are not big fans of Tharuzall since he is a half orc. Everyone gathers in Paul’s office. The work entails escorting a lumber shipment for 3 days to Sandpoint for the Mercantile League. In return, everyone receives 50 gold. A contract was produced that each adventurer was required to sign. Shia determined that the contract had a magical enchantment on it. Don’t know what exactly it was. Everyone signed – Paul broke the pen. Everyone except for Visuma felt a burning need to see the contract to completion. The money was retrieved from the chest, and everyone was paid in advance.
Outside, there are three wagons. The first and third wagons are ordinary wagons, full of lumber. The second (middle) wagon is much more extravagant, looking like a gypsy wagon. The door to this wagon had several locks on it. Everyone piled into the wagons as follows: Wagon 1: Visuma(driver), Kek, Gorin, Ragnar, and Tharuzall Wagon 2: Paul(driver) and Pandereos Wagon 3: Saban (driver) and Shia Along the way on the first day, the road collapses in front of the first wagon. Visuma is unable to stop, and both of the horses and the 1st wagon fall into the pit. The 2nd and 3rd wagons are able to stop. Fortunately, everyone on the first wagon hopped off before falling into the pit.
The party is attacked by a giant wasp, a ratswarm and 3 dire rats. Paul was scared and hid in the wagon. The adventurers emerge victorious! After the attack, they examine the pit and notice that there are bodies at the bottom. It’s obvious they were tortured, and Paul recognizes them as loggers from Sandpoint. Paul identifies one the bodies to be Jacob, his next-door neighbor. He then goes into a story about a mass murderer from 2-3 years ago. Apparently, “Chopper” (the mass murderer) killed over 20 people and chopped off their heads and removed their eyes and tongues. The bodies in the pit all have their heads, so this seems unrelated. Tharuzall finds 4 gp, 15 sp, 40cp. More importantly, one horse was unharmed due to the fall in the pit, and the other horse was healed from its injuries. The wagon and horses are pulled out, and the group decides to camp for the night.
Around the campfire, Paul talks about his crush at the Rusty Dragon Inn in Sandpoint, Ameiko. She apparently likes him too, because she gives him discounts on drinks. Wants to dance with her at the Swallowtail festival. Paul starts talking about other Sandpoint residents. Brinklebeard the locksmith, who Paul says is very smart. Thinks he may have been involved with putting the locks on the middle wagon. Kendra Devrin, the mayor, seems very trustworthy – according to Paul. Paul said the wagon with locks showed up with the chest one day. Thought the Mercantile League had provided him the wagon for him to ride in. Never had required escorts in the past.
Tharuzall and Pandereos go into the middle wagon to search it. Plush interior with an unmade bed. Found a piece of wood that doesn’t look like it belongs. Pandereos disables device because it appears trapped. In the hidden compartment, they find a glowy rod which they ask Shia to identify. She determines it is magical from the divination school, but is unable to determine exactly what it does. Tells everyone to leave it alone until she can identify it completely. Tharuzall leaves the wagon, but Pandereos does not. He cannot avoid the temptation and uses the magical device (unknown to everyone else). He stumbles out of the wagon and attacks the first person he sees, Tharuzall. Tharuzall fights back. The group subdues Pandereos, and Ragnar ties him up. The group figures out what happened, and Shia identifies that Pandereos was under the effects of a confusion spell. Saban cures Pandereos, but refuses to help out Tharuzall. Visuma heals him instead.
The group decides to rest for the night. 1st watch: Gorin and Kek 2nd watch: Ragnar and Tharuzall. Ragnar spies 3-5 wolves circling camp and then leave. Everyone gets back in the wagons for Day 2 of the adventure. Raining hard. Shia fails again when trying to identify the rod. The weather is treacherous, and the wagons are having difficulty making it through the mud. Camping again for the night.
