Ezakien Tobyn (Former Priest of Sandpoint)

Father

Per Abstalar Zantus(Priest)
Father Zantus begins, I was born and raised in the chapel in Sandpoint. I grew up with a loving family, My father, Ezakien Tobyn, and my mother, La Vita Tobyn, raised myself and my older sister Nualia on the stories of faith and fellowship found in the various scriptures of Desna and Sarenrae, while also teaching us many things about all the great gods. Unfortunately, however, we lost my mother to sickness when I was very young, and even my father's abilities as a cleric of Desna could not save her. Not long after her death, I began a deep worship of Sarenrae , partially in honor of my late mother.   It wasn't long into my childhood that I realized that my sister was different. I always knew she was pretty, and that many of the young boys fawned all over her, but it wasn't until she reached her teens that my father told me more. "Your sister is an Assimar, Zantus. The blood of the angels flows within her, and that is why she stands out. You must watch over her, for men will lust for her, and women will despise her beauty."   And I did watch over Nualia , as much as a younger brother really could. I noticed the mean things others would say, and often found my sister crying in her room, late at night. She would tell me tales of places far away that she wanted to visit and that she had no interest in joining the church on her 18th Nameday. She spoke of being in love with a young boy named Derek. I never trusted Derek, and I warned her so, but being 4 years her junior, she often didn't heed my advice. In fact it was right before her 18th Nameday that she told our father that she was pregnant with Derek's child, and would not be joining the church. Father was devastated, but he loved her, and would not forsake her.   Six months after sister announced her new condition, the man that was to marry her, Derek Scarnetti, disappeared from town. His friends whispered rumors that he had no love for Nualia, and ran away to hide from his responsibilities as a father. Nualia was devastated and retreated within herself. She wouldn't even speak to myself or father. Two months later, Nualia also disappeared.   Now you have to understand... this was only a few weeks after the sheriff had killed the Chopper, and folks were still very scared. We didn't know if Chopper had come up from the dead, possibly taking Derek, and now Nualia. After Choppers rampage, disappearances were not taken lightly, and the village did its best to try to find Nualia, to no avail. Just when we were about to give up all hope, Nualia returned some 3 weeks later looking solemn and childless. Father questioned her about the child, and where she had been, but Nualia refused to speak. Father's best friend and right hand man,Titus Scarnetti, was so concerned that he was going to send for a powerful cleric from Magnimar, for help. Unfortunately, he never had the chance.   A week after my sister returned, a terrible fire engulfed the Chapel while my father, Nualia and myself rested helplessly inside. Luckily, Tsuto Kaijitsu was on his way home late that night after an evening at the Rusty Dragon Inn , when he noticed the flames. I don't remember anything except Tsuto pulling me from the collapsing fire of the chapel while I screamed for my father and my sister, neither of which were ever seen again.
Per Ameiko Kaijitsu   Father Ezakien Tobyn was the religious leader in the Varisian town of Sandpoint until his death in 4702 AR. The Desnan cleric died in the fire that destroyed the town church—part of a series of events that came to be known as the "Late Unpleasantness".
