Free Marches of Kargenras

Kargenras is a tough land, full of tough people. Abroad expanse of untamed tundra, frozen fjords, sparse pine forests, arctic ice fields, and glacier covered mountains. A land of long winters, short summers, monsters and giants and ancient ruins. It’s a land of short summers, long nights, and even longer and colder winters. It’s people are as rough and hardy as the land they work, and are fiercely proud of their independence. Populated predominantly by Humans, Dwarves, Goliath, Tabaxi, Orcs, Dragons and Giants; among other wilder beasts. Kargenras is believed to the oldest human lands, being among the first ever settled by early human tribes in the early 2nd Epoch. The land isn't a unified Kingdom, but rather a collection of squabbling fortified cities known as the Eight Holds. The only thing that ever unites the Eight Holds is the threat of invasion from outsiders; be that southerns, Orcs from the mountains, or barbarians from across the icy Sea of Cold Silence.
No one hold can claim to be the capital of the Free Marches; but two of the largest, oldest, and holds that maintain the most influence are Valgarde, and Titanrest
Valgarde is among the southernmost holds, built into the crags of a deep fjord. It acts as a trading hub for the few ships that venture this far north, as well as stepping off point for many would be adventurers.
Titanrest, is found high up in the mountains. It retains much of it's significance by virtue of its unique location. The city is actually built inside of the rib cage of a skeleton of Titan the size of a small mountain from an age gone by. The site draws a myriad of adventurers, pilgrims, and determined visitors seeking information about the ancient history of the world.
Other Holds include: Brynn Shander, Fort Wildevar, Caer-Dineval, Lonelywood, Maer Dualdon, Utgaard
