While their marriage was arranged like almost all noble marriages are, the two had briefly met on multiple occasions as their families have been longtime neighbors. When the Ellis' struggled to find a bride for their son, the Portsbury family suggested that their daughter Meredith be married into the family, even though she was significantly younger than Damian.
