History

Although Feln Volaris is known primarily as the capital of the Kingdom of Atra and as the birthplace of the Veran people, its founding predates the existence of either, by over 2000 years. In fact, it is one of the world's oldest continually-inhabited cities, and may be the oldest outside of the modern elven nations.
Initially, Volaris was founded by High Elves coming from The Spine of the World, as the first elven colony on the continent of Eukatetica. At the time, Eukatetica and Subrosia were separated by the Marodeen Sea, which in those days was actually a sea. Wishing to expand trade between the High Elven kingdoms on Alyha Dorei and the many ports connected by the Marodeen Thalassocracy, elven colonists founded the city of Feln Volaris near the straits marking the entrance to the Marodeen Sea. Tensions grew between the human principalities ringing the Marodeen Sea and the elvish presence growing along the western coast of Eukatetica. Cultural misunderstandings eventually progressed to centuries of bloody conflict. When the peace proposal came to establish a shared nation where elves and humans would live and work side-by-side, Feln Volaris and the surrounding region was chosen due to its central, strategic location between the two sides. The experiment worked, although not before the war inflicted its greatest casualty: the death of the Marodeen Sea itself. 
In the nearly 5,000 years since, Feln Volaris became the capital of the new Veran kingdom of Atra, magic magic etc etc.
