Personal history
High Lord Torol Sadeas took the throne in 1149, around the same time as High Lord Gavilar Kholin. Both were young, though Gavilar was a few years older than Torol. During the initial part of his rule as High Lord, Sadeas enjoyed a lot of freedom being able to move goods down the Deathbend river almost free of charge due to his friendship with the Kholins. Considered a political mastermind, High Lord Sadeas was often at the heart of schemes of Gavilar's to unite Alethkar.
After Gavilar's death, in 1169 High Lord Sadeas and Dalinar went on a joint operation to put down a rogue noble attempting to conquer part of the Kholin's northeastern territory to carve out an 11th princedom. However, just south of Four-Point Pond, Sadeas betrayed Dalinar, leaving him and his army to die. In the end, Dalinar was rescued and survived the betrayal, however his only excuse for pulling out was a"hasty retreat that Dalinar didn't hear the order for in his bloodlust in battle". According to those close to him, Sadeas may be or have been planning on continuing Gavilar's work and crowning himself king of Alethkar.
