Centurion Artisans
Centurion Artisans are those class of people with special education or special skills. They are smiths, musicians, accountants, stone masons, carpenters, doctors, teachers, and researchers. Centurion smiths, doctors, and Natural Philosophers (scientists) have a world class reputation. The secrets of the Centurion smiths are closely protected while the knowledge of the doctors is freely shared. The research produced by the Centurion "Natural Philosophers" may be shared or kept secret depending upon its nature. The senior knight and the senior shieldmaiden will have advisers but this is not a separate class unto itself, anyone can be chosen to be the adviser but advisers are often chosen from the artisan class to provide the military leaders with a different perspective from their own.
To become an artisan any 12 year old may select to be an artisan at their Step of Faith ceremony but they must have a sponsor who will teach them the trade of their choice. The child becomes an apprentice of an artisan in the field that they choose and spend the next eight years learning their craft. They serve for life in a Centurion stronghold but may move between strongholds during the course of their lives.
