Session 22: Trail Back Home Report
General Summary
The twenty second session, taking place on the 6th of April in 2024, involved the characters of Ausie (Primolasp), Cord (Mr Bibbles), Xelfy Zippletopple (Yeti) and Red (Erasmas). The session lasted from 19:14 British Time to 22:43 British Time.
The session began in the outskirts of Fort Greybeard, the party hauling back the various artifacts and trinkets that they had acquired in their ruins dive, on horseback. When the party eventually arrived at the fort, they were ushered in and, following some abrupt questioning, managed to find their way to Kwarm, where he and the Yuqtin Lord Aymeric were waiting.
After handing over the more pertinent documents found in Fort Silvertongue, the party were talked through the plan for assaulting the shell of a city that Winkwarwick had become. Now made aware of the plan to meet with the elves to form a distraction whilst the dwarves moved in to secure key positions, Kwarm directed the party to return to the surface where they would arrive at an old, albeit unknown (much to the embarassment and annoyance of Aymeric) castle to plan their next move.
Satisfied with what they had to do, the party returned to the surface and, after making sure they wouldn't fall over due to their loss of resistance to natural light, they made their way to the castle where they met with the other dwarves. Cautious not to get themselves killed yet, the party clarified more of the plan's details and ensured they knew where and when to meet the elves. Further satisfied, the party once more set off, apprehensive to burn more daylight.
When arriving at the city, however, the party found it a shadow of its former self, pillaging having destroyed many parts of buildings and driven most of the populous to seek shelter or leave the area. Still focused on their mission, however, the party made their way to the tavern where they could find the elves, careful not to draw too much attention to themselves as Xelfy began talks and Red tried to get the rebel guard drunk.
After a short discussion, and a few failed attempts to make the guard drink, the party agreed for the elves to begin and, after Silborn used what appeared to be some sort of signal linked to a coin, a concerningly large section of the now abandoned industrial district was blown up. Although concerned by the sudden plume of smoke and earthshaking explosion, the party quickly set into motion as the guards rushed off to investigate.
Having made their way to the mostly undefended castle, the party entered the Feast Hall, coming face to face with the traitor Lord Ulrich and his guards. Unfortunately, attempts to threaten the ambitious backbencher into surrendering were only met with a shaky, albeit firm, will. Although one of the guards escaped, likely then killed in the fighting outside, the others were all deftly taken down, and Lord Ulrich was captured. Now with a secured castle and a bound traitor, the party went in search of Yuqtin Lord Aymeric to bring the good news and collect their vastly overdue pay.
When meeting with the now much more jovial Aymeric, he very quickly explained the situation and, after being informed of the party's equal success, told the party that he planned to mobilise the force down south, attempting to secure the river as a defensive line whilst they awaited the return of survivors and any loyal soldiers. He also brought the party a lockbox, which he informed them contained part of their pay for their services before informing them that the rest of their pay would be in the form of land.
Not elaborating much further, Aymeric and the party made haste to the south, eventually arriving at the party's new property; the small town of Salthaven. Ushered inside the main building, the party bumps into the staff they would have in their employ, who were in the process of preparing for their arrival.
Eventually, however, the party found Emmett the Bookkeeper, who serves as the manager of the staff and town in the party's absence. After a short explanation about the town's access to resources, local manpower and the worst thing of all time. Finances.
In order to avoid thinking about their newfound, apocalyptic responsibilities to not financially bankrupt a stable town, the party made preparations to meet the local townsfolk the following day.
