Wood Elves

Born of the forest, Wood Elves are a mysterious people that have an affinity for nature flowing through their blood. To other Races, an Elf moves strangely, with each movement seeming to flow with minimal effort and a mere whisper of movement. Such is the natural grace of the Elves, that seldom do they leave footprints. The Wood Elves, especially, are so light-footed that only the most aware of creatures can hear them approaching.

Most Wood Elves are slightly taller than Humans, although their height can range from around 5 feet to up to 6.5 feet. With a slender frame, they weigh roughly 100 to 145 pounds. Their figure can be deceiving, however, as Wood Elves tend to be slightly stronger than their other kin, having adapted to living in harmony with their woodland realms. Like all Elves, they are easily identified by their longer, pointed ears. Although Wood Elves reach physical maturity at much the same rate as Humans, they do not seem to age after. The average Wood Elf is expected to live to about 750 years of age, but it has been recorded that Elder Wood Elves can reach up to an age of 1500 years - although it is not known how this is accomplished.

The colouration of Wood Elven skin encompasses all the tones found amongst Humans, but they can also vary in unique ways. Shades of copper and bronze are common, as well as slight twinges of green. Their hair tends to be more earthly colours - browns, blondes and natural-reds, although to outsiders these tones can be often mistaken for golds and copper. Most Elves have long flowing hair, which seems to be supernaturally perfect regardless of the conditions. Other colours of hair are rarer, such as greens, greys and whites. Wood Elves have no facial hair and little body hair, and typically have slender facial features, offering a strange and alien beauty to outsiders.

A unique trait amongst all Elves is the lack of need to sleep, and Wood Elves are no exception. Instead, a meditative trance is performed for roughly 4 hours a day. Wood Elves use this time to reflect on the day's events and commune with nature, allowing them the rest they need. Another trait a Wood Elf has is the heightened eyesight, which has greatly enhanced their ability to see in the dark.

Origins of the Wood Elves

It is thought that Elves were the first of the mortal races to come in to being. Indeed, their recorded history goes back several tens-of-thousands of years, although not all are privy to such ancient texts. Legends say that the First Gods created the Elves as one race, and over the generations they divided in to the different sub-races of Elves that are found throughout the land.

The Wood Elves, naturally, are the descendants of the Elves who had an affinity for nature and the trees. It is unclear when the distinctions between the different sub-races of Elves happened, but it is thought to have been long before the event that the Elves refer to simply as The War of the Heavens.

Finding Wood Elves in the World of Varda

Wood Elves are most commonly found in Delastari, a great forest that lies nestled within the The Kingdom of Arden. Here they dwell in solitude, warding off any strangers that come to their lands with a natural distrust of the other Races. Despite this, throughout the many thousands of years, some Wood Elves have ventured out of their forest home and joined other Cultures. Enjoying the comforts of more civilised society, they are often found in neighbouring Kingdoms and countries. A list of where you can find Wood Elves is as follows:
