This is the capital of Westingham and its most populated city. It has served as the capital of regional kingdoms for only the past few centuries, as before that, nations favored the more strategic Makreigh or the older Erech Yor. Erding Yeavin became a successful choice due to its central position, while still not being too far from the sea. Erech Yor had been severely damaged during the War for the World, and out of necessity, the capital was moved to Mayrfort afterwards. However, it wouldn’t be long before it was relocated again to Makreigh, which was larger and more valuable for projecting power into the White Sea, before eventually moving back to Erding Yeavin, where it remains to this day.
History
While this settlement is grand now, it was merely eight centuries ago that it was a small fishing village with a bridge over the river. It was only when its trade potential was recognized that it began to grow in size and importance. At that time, it became the fief of the Ubaron dynasty, which now reigns as kings of Westingham and moved the national capital to their ancestral home. The Ubarons gained the crown by inheritance after the previous dynasty, the Yohnna, failed to produce an heir. This is why, to this day, the principality of Makreigh and the duchy of Westwood are ruled by junior branches of the Ubaron dynasty, as Westwood had been part of the kingshold, land owned by the crown, under the Yohnna dynasty. Before this, the city served as the capital of the duchy of Karillya, which is now called the kingshold, although the official title of the king is still King of Westingham and Duke of Karillya. Prior to the rise of Erding Yeavin, the duchy was ruled from another city, which was never as large or significant and is now merely a large village known as Kallburgh.
Infrastructure
The city features several rows of walls, expanded multiple times as it grew, each becoming more impressive as you move outward. In the center, the old walls are more decorative than functional, having long ceased to defend the city, they now merely protect the royal palace. The city center has shifted away from the old town, where the palace is located, and now sits just outside of it, with roads leadng in every direction. The city has no fewer than eight outer gates at different locations, while the centermost walls feature only one, complete with a moat and a drawbridge. Originally, the city was confined to the northern bank of the Yavin River, but over time, a new settlement emerged on the southern bank. At that time, it was a workers' town, built to manage the trade traffic flowing through, but it has since expanded significantly.
