Dark Elves
When they were first encountered, the humans called them dark elves, due to their similar body shape, and pointy ears, but this is something both the Nalsai, and the Elves, found greatly offensive, so it is now a secondary name for them, used only by humans.
Their skins range from charcoal to dark grey, which blends will with the trees here, many of which have dark grey, or even black bark.
They have long limbs, and a tall stature, their eyes red as blood, with white large black slits for pupils.
They almost exclusively have straight black hair, and in their culture, curly, or even wavy hair is considered a peasant trait, and quite unattractive.
Their teeth are sharp, and uniform in size, reminding of the teeth of sharks. They have these to aid in their carnivorous diet.
Carnivores
The Nalsai are the only known corporeal race that have an exclusively carnivorous diet, and they get most of their food from their herders, and raise various kinds of strange cattle.
They don't have any agriculture whatsoever despite their lands being especially fertile, since they can't eat such produce, which is also why much of their population is still nomadic, leading their herds across the land,
This diet means that they have been able to support much smaller populations than their neighbors, but they lack in numbers, they more than makeup for in strength, intelligence, and sheer cunning.
Culture
Their culture largely revolves around individual hunting and fighting ability, and while they also get a lot of food from herding, their favorite meal is the one they hunted themselves. Both men and women participate in this tradition, and children are often brought along, to learn from the adults. They will use all parts of hunted game, eating the meat, even the organs, and the pelts for clothing, as they have no industry for grown fabrics, such as cotton.
They will hunt anything that they can eat, but their favorite prey are the Felmen to their souther border. This is a mythical and most prestigious prey to them, and nay who can slay such a dangerous foe is most worthy of respect, on their border live the wolf Felmen, so they are most commonly hunted by the Nalsai, eaten, and turned into coats, as is tradition when hunting Felmen.
Their clothing are often made from the skins of whatever an individual has hunted, supplemented by woolen clothes, which they purchase from the herders.
Courting & Relationships
The Nalsai are a hunting people, and the court each other, by showing off their skills. When a man is interested in a woman, he will try to impress her by inviting her on a hunt, to show off, he might slay dangerous beast, and gift them to her, or present her the skins of a rare creature, feathers of a rare bird.
If a woman doesn't reciprocate these gestures, the man will feel scorned, and the whole thing will end then and there. It also happens that the woman initiates this flirting, but she will be much more persistent if the man doesn't immediately respond.
once a relationship has been established, the pair do all their hunts together, as hunting in teams of two, is much easier than hunting alone, and if it goes well, they will soon be expected to marry, and make it official. Generally, the Nalsai practice monogamy, however, sometimes, high-ranking men or women, might attract multiple partners. This will often lead to a duel, among the ones fighting over a partner, this is the same when women fight over a man, as when men fight over a woman, usually, in the end, they are still monogamous. It does happen that a man takes advantage of multiple women, this is looked down on, and he may get in trouble with them, if he doesn't end up picking one, but if he somehow manages to get both of them pregnant, the community council might obligate him to marry both of them, which inevitably ends with the two women at each others throats.
