Tears in Space
These holes in the fabric of reality are presumed to have been caused by the wars of the Ynue rebellion of times long past.
Whatever caused them, they are here now, and they have remained stable for as long as memory goes back.
They are not simply tears, they are hotspots for mystical energy, they have mana streaming out of them, making very useful for certain magical processes.
Besides that, they have been long studied by the mages of the world, to try to figure out their exact origin, their purpose for existing, and what they are exactly.
Gates to other Worlds
Besides being hotspots of magical energy, they are known to allow passengers into the void, and onto other worlds, mages are still not sure how it works exactly, only that only one in ten who attempt it manages to return alive, and those that do, are different, they rave and ramble about strange worlds, and about the terrors of the void.
Locations
There are currently three known of these magical phenomenon, the most accessible of these is located on one of the southern isles of westingham, and around it they built the mage academy.
The second of these locations coincidentally also has a mage academy built around it, and it is located on one of the islands in the sea of a thousand isles.
The third and least accessible one is located in the furthest and least explored regions of the dark forest in enyanin.
