Airships

Airships are boat like crafts with large sealed balloons that carry the ship aloft. The contents of the balloons are a closely guarded secret so replicating these vessels has proven difficult for Aithrol's rivals. While useful for sailing the sky, airships do have several limitations. The biggest limitation of airships is that they lack the capability to travel vertically. Upon their construction airships are locked to the altitude they are built at. To propel themselves they use a combination of sails along the side to catch the wind and propellers on the rear. The propellers are often man-powered but some models use magic or constructs for power. For steering, they use special sails beneath and in front of the ship. If too much weight is added to the ship and it falls below its altitude range for unknown reasons they begin to rapidly plummet. To prevent this all ships have altitude gauges that indicate the range it can stay between. All ships are also equipped with emergency parachutes attached to the sides of the ship. While a safe landing may be an over-exaggeration it is far better than crashing.
