Gwyn'Naggurath

The ascent of the God-King Menat brought with it a great many atrocities across Avalon and beyond. Perhaps one of the greatest was the extermination of the Great Dragons. These ancient and mighty beasts had for so long been the symbols and protectors of Avalon. Yet the God-King Menat obviously saw in them challenge to his rule and following the overthrow of the Tuathan Empire the Dragons were targeted next.

Gwyn'Naggurath was one of the oldest and wisest of the Great Dragons. This huge and noble being rarely ventured far from its lair in the Snowdornia Mountains, preferring isolation and solitude. Yet that did not help it escape the attention of the God-King. As its kin fell the old Dragon was unaware and only when its would-be assassins found its lair did Gwyn'Naggurath realise what was happening. They wounded the Dragon but it managed to kill its attackers. Filled with wrath Gwyn'Naggurath took flight and filled with rage descended upon the God-King's palace in Bel'Zanar.

What followed was a titanic battle of magical and elemental fury. The God-King assembled his Mages and Witches and unleashed his own magical might against the enraged Dragon who in turn revealed its own magical power along with its fire, made into an inferno by its rage. Much destruction was wrought and the city around the great arcology of Bel'Zanar was devastated. One by one the God-King's allies until finally only he and the Dragon remained.

Alas, the old Dragon was sorely wounded and the God-King used those wounds to infect Gwyn'Naggurath with an a dark magic infused infection. The Dragon, exhausted and knowing it could not defeat this foe until its strength returned, fled and hid far from the ever expanding empire of the God-King.

It never returned to full strength. The infection would spread, rotting the noble beast from within. Two centuries later and Gwyn'Naggurath slumbers still, its body rotting slowly but surely. The Dragon sleeps because then it can slow the poison in its veins to a crawl. It sends out dreams and summons to those who can hear it, offering reward for any who can cure it of the vile affliction.

Once cured, the Dragon will regain its might and resume its battle with the God-King.
