The Bringer of The Storms
The wild and primal realm of Caenar has a most unique and dangerous weather anomaly that its indigenous people live in fear of. An immense storm of incredible power and ferocity that sweeps across the lands, bringing devastation with its hurricane force winds, deluges of rain and lightning of almost apocalyptic power.
And leading the storm, the beating of its wings audible over the chaos, a defeaning crash to unprotected ears, is the Thunderbird.
The Bringer of The Storm.
A gigantic avian leviathan, the Thunderbird is a creature of incredible magical power, an elemental intrinsically tied to Caenar. The natives of Caenar have long sought to understand why the Thunderbird brings its storm down upon them like a judgement and over many generations they have learnt some ways to if not prevent its appearance then at least mitigate its wrath.
Industry beyond the most simple mining is not allowed, as are roads and large permanent structures built of brick. The Thunderbird is seen by some tribes as a God of primal nature and views the trappings of civilisation and the reaping of the land for its resources as an affront that it cannot countenance. Most of the tribes are nomadic, moving along set routes across the savage lands of Caenar, their wise men and shamans guiding them and ensuring the tenets are not breached lest the Thunderbird unleash its might.
Attempts at communicating directly with the Thunderbird rarely end well. The creature is notoriously unpredictable and many believe it is too savage to commune with satisfactorily. Still, some try and climb the highest mountains to reach the tallest peaks in the hopes of speaking with the Thunderbird. They seek to learn from it, perhaps gain its patronage and, for the truly foolish, bind and control it.
Most, though not all, fail and are lost. They are either consumed directly or blasted with elemental magic of terrifying power.
Some though, a very meagre few, succeed and are marked by the Thunderbird as its chosen. They are blessed with the smallest fraction of its Godlike power and became elementalists of great repute. They will travel Caenar and beyond, the means to pass from one realm to another a further gift from their patron. Their purpose? None beyond their ranks know.
