The Red Devil

The Forlorn Plains of southern Arallfyd are dangerous and hostile. Populated by all manner of hostile tribes who reside within the ruins of the Great One civilisation, the Plains are also plagued by a variety of dinosaurian creatures; some carnivorous, all belligerent.

The greatest and most dangerous of these is the Red Devil.

A very old Tyrant Lizard beast the Red King is a far larger and much more fierce creature. Its hide is bullet and blade proof, its claws can rip through armour and its jaws can rip and crush just about anything it wants to eat. Despite its size it is remarkably agile and, perhaps the most distressing asset it possess, the Red Devil is very intelligent. Certainly as intelligent as a human and thus able to think and plan. It can formulate strategies to take down its prey and use the enviroment to improve its odds in a fight. That it is bigger and stronger than most things it encounters means the Red Devil rarely bothers to strategies.

The Red Devil is a solitary beast, shunning the company of its kind unless it is mating season. Then it seeks to mate with as many female Tyrants as it can. Thus far, none of its progeny have displayed similar traits to their huge and formidable father.

There is some speculation in Bel'Zanar, thankfully far enough away from the Forlorn Plains not to be concerned overly about the Red Devil, that the beast is either a random mutation or augmented in some manner by unknown forces. Attempts to tame or capture the Red Devil have always gone poorly and even the vaunted Beastmaster's of the Crimson Pit, no strangers to dangerous beasts always in need of new attractions, have given up on trying.

There has only ever been one occasion where the Red King was defeated. This singular feat came not through an army, or equally formidable beast. A single human fought and defeated the Red Devil, forcing the creature to retreat, seemingly deciding this human was a risk to its continued existence. This mysterious human, known only as Arthur, somehow fought and survived an attack from a beast far, far larger.

If some thought this defeat would have lessened the Red Devil's ferocity or taken away its edge, they were proven wrong. If anything the Red Devil became more fierce and hostile, it expanded its territory and attacked whatever transgressed with greater violence than ever before.
