Andrastian Accord
The Andrastian Accord was an agreement signed more than a thousand years ago between the Inquisition and the Chantry to unite under one cause and establish the Chantry's military arm. Together the Chantry and the Inquisition created the Circle of Magi during the rule of Orlais's Emperor Kordilius Drakon I. The Inquisition broke into two groups serving the Chantry: the Templar Order and the Seekers of Truth.
Purpose
In the years following the end of the First Exalted March, the Chantry was newly established in Orlais. The use of magic, though illegal, was rampant and unchecked throughout all of Thedas. Some groups of Tevinters, angered by the march against their empire, took it upon themselves to exact vengeance upon those who had opposed them. They spread knowledge of blood magic, teachings of their heretical Old Gods, and summoned powerful demons from the Fade to wreak havoc. The Inquisition was a group who had risen up to defend the people against the tyranny of magic in every form that it took. After many years of this chaos, the Chantry recognized that there were mages in the Inquisition who held strong values and who had helped protect humanity. The Divine at the time decided to seek out a better solution.
Eventually, the Andrastian Accord was signed and the Inquisition agreed to lower its banner and submit to the authority of the Chantry. The mage hunters switched their focus from hunting to guarding mages and established the Templar Order through which the Templars could watch over the newly created Circle of Magi. The senior members of the Inquisition became the Seekers of Truth, acting as overseers to the Templars and as special agents of the Divine.
