Dragonborn
The dragonborn are a strange, foreign race that hail from the Anderfels. They live in Northwestern Thedas, their nation bordering Nevarra.
Very little is known about these people. Nevarrans occasionally see the dragonborn patrolling their borders, but none have dared to enter their lands. In other nations, people cannot even begin to imagine what a dragonborn would look like. They hear tales of humans with reptilian heads and let their thoughts go wild.
Despite being strange, dragonborn are held with high regard. They have only left their country once, and that was during the First Exalted March. It was during a fight where Andraste's army had come into battle with the Tevinter Imperium's magistrates. The Tevinter mages began summoning demons and creatures from the Fade. After three days of fighting, Andraste's army seemed incapable of winning. It was following this third day that the dragonborn emerged from their lands, an army the likes of which had never been seen before. The dragonborn came from across the Western mountain tops and drove their army head first into the sea of demons and other abominations. They broke down the lines of the Tevinter magistrates, decimating all they deemed evil. As quickly as they came, they left and returned to the Anderfels.
This is the only major incident involving a dragonborn leaving their lands, though many remember it even to this day. From that day forward, dragonborn were instead referred to as the Dragon Phalanx. Stories live on about these strange people, citing them as bringers of justice and as sources of "incorruptible good".
The name "dragonborn" derives from the misconception that these people were born from dragons. This is not true, but that hasn't stopped plenty of people from thinking so.
