Faineth

"Ages ago, legend says Bann Conobar wed a beautiful young woman who harbored a secret talent for magic: Faineth of Highever. For a time they lived happily, until the arrival of a young poet, Osen, who captured the lady's heart with his verse.   Faineth and Osen turned to Chasind Wilders, and supposedly Rangers of the South (if you consider them to exist), to hide from Conobar's wrath. Woe was she when Faineth discovered that Conobar lay dying: his last wish to see Faineth's face one final time.   The two lovers returned, but they had fallen right into his trap! Conobar slew Osen, blood covered his blade, and he then imprisoned Faineth in the highest tower of the castle. In grief and rage, Faineth worked a spell to summon a spirit into this world to wreak vengeance upon Conobar. Vengeance, she received, but not as she planned. The spirit took possession of her, turning Faineth to an abomination. Twisted and maddened, she slaughtered Conobar and all his men, then fled back into the Korcari Wilds.   For as long as men have walked through the lands of Ferelden, Faineth had plotted, seducing men to sire monstrous daughters: horrific things that could kill a man using nothing but fear.   A man of legendary rapport stormed into Wilds by himself and burned all the withes, so they say, but even now the Wilders whisper about women in the marshes. Cormac was his name, and let his name be sung from the rooftops!   ...but even now... some believe that Faineth still exists and plays an unsettling role in the lives of Ferelden's most notable citizens."
