Korcari Wilds

The Korcari Wilds are a cold southern expanse of forest and swamp, the extent of which is not truly known. Its native to monsters, Chasind Wilders, and pockets of Ferelden settlements. Despite being within Ferelden's borders, much of the lands are untamed and are hardly able to even be considered settled.   The forests extend into the Uncharted Lands, where the Jrid linger, thus making it impossible for cartographers to know how large the Wilds truly are.   Many stories surround the existence of the Wilds. Most notably so are the "Witches of the Wilds", a legendary and notorious sisterhood that supposedly preys upon those in the forest. The most common legends speaks of the most powerful of these witches: Faineth.

History

A thick, arcane mist perpetually hangs over the swamps in this area. Most believe that the mists are a curse placed on the lands due the machinations of a once great arl. This arl ventured into the Wilds killing every wolf he could find, due to fear of werewolves. Unsure of what was truth and what was not, he also killed every Chasind he could find. A Chasind mother was outraged upon find her sons dead at the soldiers' blades. In her grief, she stabbed the blade into her own heart, from which seeped forth the mist that spread throughout the Wilds. It was so dense that the arl and his soldiers were lost inside forever.   Supposedly, the arl still stalks these lands. His maddening rage can occasionally be heard echoing across the trees. Some Fereldens even claim to have seen him stalking them. Even fewer say that they've seen him face-to-face.   As the Jrid invaded Ferelden during the time of the Ferelden Civil War, these Wilds were one of the first places hit by their wake of corruption and desolation. While much of the forest remains in tact, the Chasind residents have been trying their best to recover from the loss of so much and the deaths of so many.
