Josephine Montafort

Ambassador of the Wardens

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Josephine was born and raised as the third child of her family, in Denerim. She had a strict upbringing from two parents who had met in the battlefields during the Ferelden Rebellions. Both of her parents were knights who served under King Calenhad Theirin.   Being the youngest, she was a bit of a runt but was brought in line early on by her two older brothers who teased her unendingly for trying to do that which they could do easily. Looking back, Josephine vividly remembers the times her brothers spent looking out after her but they'd never admit truly how much they all care for each other. The two brothers instead tease each other, often dragging Josephine in, much to her chagrin.   Being the third child, she was sent to be schooled in the hopes that she would be able to claim an estate and begin to gain power so that their whole family could rise up in the world. Josephine's parents paid an arm and a leg to get her into some of the best academic environments and it truly paid off. That is, until Josephine decided she had had enough.   She had a clear knack for the academic environment and she excelled. One of the king's lieutenants noticed after a few years and eventually requested her to join the king's tacticians and she proudly agreed. The trials to get to such a position were arduous, mentally, but she managed. It was tough for her, she hadn't felt so challenged but she enjoyed it.   The position came with many benefits. She became well acquainted with the mysterious politiquing done by the nobles, especially the teyrns. Josephine also found many friends along the way as well. Her enjoyment of the position ended when she was sent to the Korcari Wilds with a detachment of knights to protect her. They had been looking for a single platoon that had gone missing in a scouting mission on the Jrid, but something else clearly got to the them first. It was a terrifying scene to her.   After returning the terrible news to the king, Josephine decided to retire from her position. The deaths of a few people hung heavy on her head. She imagined that if war was ever to break out against Orlais again, she wouldn't have the will to send armies to fight to the death for some greater good. Perhaps that's why she never took up a noble position of her own.   However, a man in that meeting met with her afterwards. He was also a tactician, one that she had seldom seen. He was growing old, but was held in high respects of everyone else. Malcolinus Flume was his name; the Warden-Commander was his title. This man offered her a spot in the Wardens on the front-lines acting as an on-field medical officer.   Since then she's seen a lot more and maybe her nerves have grown, but she eventually resigned and took up the role as Malcolinus Flume's ambassador upon the untimely passing of his previous.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

With Ferelden falling to civil war, Josephine wants to end the war before she finds out that either of her parents or brothers died. She fears that if the country falls into complete chaos, everyone will be doomed to the fate of the Jrid. For the few weeks that she was left in charge of Malcolinus's will (prior to Gregory Flume being found), she was wracked with indecision. She sat idly by as the estate, and the name of the Wardens, fell to complete ruin.   To those who do not know her, this would seem strange. She's usually so very organized and put together, but having to take charge reminds her of all the mistakes she's made as a tactician and as the on-field medic. She does well knowing what she should do, but having people's lives in her hands is just a pressure she does not work well under.   In the end, she wants to do the right thing, but has never had the will to make the necessary calls. She wants to see herself one day as a leader. She doubts it'll come to fruition, but she's always watching and looking to improve.
