Common Taboos

  • Open friendship with the Werepeople is sadly become somewhat of a taboo. It's been many years since those unfortunate times but Centaurs find it harder to forgive than most. The unfortunate side-effect of being turned into uncontrollable chimera's also factors into their distrust of them.
  • Even though it's not forbidden, it's looked down upon for Centaurs to intermingle with other races. They are free to love whoever they wish but because they cannot bear children with any other race. It sometimes frustrates other to see a coupling of this nature. But, some Centaurs have been seen spending more time than normal with a few pegasus. But it's not something the herd wishes to acknowledge or deal with at the moment.

History

The Centaurs come from the Inians, a group of men who settled on the Savage Lands. That's the only thing known about their past before moving to Shadowmane as they never shared how they became centaurs. But after they came to Shadowmane they lived there undisturbed for years. They were good friends with the all of the races within the circle. They had plenty of open space and great soil on Shadowmane, game was plentiful though barely needed. They had no enemies to speak of, everything was fine until the circle was sundered by the Humans. All centaurs were present at the children's festival as they always were when this happened.

When it did they went around lending a helping hand to any who needed it, before they could build or find ships to take them home. That's when their fortunes started to grow, the men from the serferine kingdom had left there own and settled directly in the centaurs home. While some centaurs wished to make them pay, cooler heads prevailed. Humans accepted an agreement to retrofit their old home in serferine for centauran habitation, if the centaurs let them stay in shadowmane, and they agreed. A lot of Centaurs thought this was foolish to agree to such a thing, but they were about to be proven wrong. The centaurs drew up the design of the home that they wanted, and the humans built it to there specifications. The proximity due to the other races and their open nature led to the horseman creating a prosperous kingdom with open trade. Giving them the strongest kingdom in the circle, and to think now that they were content with open fields, fertile soil and a celebration or two. It's a good reminder to know that change is not always a bad thing.
Art & Architecture     Due to their weight, Centaurs build extremely sturdy homes. Especially if they build anything past 1 floor. The only part of the floor thats hardened is near the beams and support walls. The rest of the floor is either grass or soft dirt. They tend not to put any steps in their houses, they simply don't like them. They'll build ramps which are much more comfortable for them to use.

Centaurs love music, their frequent trips and desire to run takes them farther than most. But we slow down to a leisurely pace they'll pull out a instrument and play with whoever their running with.
