Blue-Backed Beetle

Blue-backed beetles, native to the jungles of Alba, are crushed to make blue pigment for paint. This paint is valued for its smooth texture and resistance to fading.   Blue-backed beetles range in size from three to four inches. They prey on much smaller insects, especially aphids, and eat some plant matter as well. They are ovaloid in shape, with shimmering dark blue wings (though it is their innards that produce the desired pigment) and six barbed legs. When threatened, the beetles spray a foul-smelling liquid from their anus, but it is harmless to most beings.
