Obelisks of Aeloriandor
The Obelisks of Aeloriandor are colossal monoliths of ancient Eldar and specifically Daoin Quessir construction, infused with potent High Elven Magic. Strategically positioned on numerous islands of the Aeloriandor, these towering structures serve as both guardians and potent manipulators of the environment.
Utility
The primary function of the Obelisks is to project powerful illusions across the archipelago. These illusions can create entire phantom landscapes, conceal islands, or conjure spectral fleets to confuse and mislead potential invaders and even obscure the existence of Owhain.
Another function that is somewhat seldomly used, as the first function is more than enough to deter unwanted attention of small vessels or large fleets, is the ability to control the weather, causing furious storms, calm seas with no winds and even summoning fishes and other sea creatures.
Additional function that is known to many of the inhabitants of Owhain and used in times of dire need, the obelisks can channel destructive evocation magic (sometimes necromancy). This includes unleashing lightning storms, fireballs, or even tidal waves capable of decimating entire fleets.
The Obelisks are also known as divine points for the whole of Aeloriandor and sometimes, can used as a focal use for other areas aswell.
Manufacturing
Each obelisk stands approximately 50 feet tall, crafted from a rare, luminescent stone that shimmers with a subtle, otherworldly light. Intricate runes and elven glyphs are carved into their surfaces, pulsating with arcane energy. At the apex of each obelisk is a large, multifaceted crystal that acts as the focal point for its magical abilities.
Constructing an obelisk is an immensely costly and labor-intensive process. It requires rare materials, extensive magical rituals, and the combined efforts of Aerlindor's most skilled mages, clerics and artisans. The creation of a single obelisk can take years, and sometimes decades to complete.
Complexity
The Obelisks of Aerlindor are incredibly complex and require constant attention. A team of highly skilled Elven mages (or clerics) must be dedicated to their upkeep, ensuring the steady flow of arcane energy and the calibration of their effects.
Creating a new obelisk is a monumental undertaking, requiring vast quantities of rare materials, centuries of research, and the combined efforts of multiple generations of mages. The process is incredibly expensive and time-consuming, making these structures invaluable and irreplaceable assets.
