Enalarin

Sentient species native to Mauray.
Enalarins are extremely highly magically attuned due to the use of Magic in enalarin physiology. Due to this, however, they require Larjarak Crystals in their diet. Individual cells of an enalarin take in larjarek crystals and form biological mana generation units and casting machines. This is very similar to how magitech works, but used in a biological system instead of a mechanical one.
This allows for faster self-replication resulting in faster growth, access to a large amount of energy and various boosts. However they are incapable of survival without magic as that would cause all of their body functions to immediately shut down. Enalarins are, apart from this difference, very similar to a regular carbon based lifeform. They have a roughly humanoid body shape with the brain located in the head like in most species. They get all the normal senses such as sight, hearing and touch feeling, but also are highly adept to magical senses.
Despite their magic ability, enalarins still reproduce organically. However they can modify their body rapidly using magic, allowing them to change gender at will. If it wasnt for this ability they would have 2 genders. After birth, an enalarin will typically become sapient at about 3 years of age and be fully grown at about 20. Due to depending very highly on magic for their survival, they would be highly mentally inclined to learn more about it. They are sometimes seen roaming Mauray for runes written on the walls of megastructures, as well as various other runes. Due to this, in enalarin culture, highly magical individuals are highly respected. Sometimes, they would even follow orders from highly magical elders. Rarely, they would die for a particularly magical individual.

Physiology

The enalarin respiratory system relies on magic to force air through a respiratory tube organ which absorbs oxygenated air into the blood. Deoxygenated air is expelled through an additional body enterance also located on their head, at the front. The respiratory tube travels through the neck down to the torso and then back up to the head. This takes up far less room in the body than a large lung organ that produces a similar amount of oxygen without use of magic.
The circulatory system also relies on magic, of course. It works similarly to a mechanical pump, using a piston-like organ to force blood into the heart by pressure difference. Then the duct just before the heart closes and the blood is released and causes the current to continue flowing. magic is used here to allow the piston to operate (using force magic specifically).
Even the enalarin digestive system requires magic to function. They dont have teeth and instead use magic to break food apart in the mouth. Their stomach uses magic rather than acid to break down food further. This operation is not very mana or energy intensive but it an take several hours to happen. It also breaks down inorganic matter like most metals, in the rare cases where an enalarin may swallow such objects. Food is then passed to the intestinal tract, where magic is used again to distinguish what it should absorb and what it probably shouldnt. Due to this, it can be difficult to kill an enalarin with poison as they are mostly immune to poison because of this. As most other species, it takes several days for food to digest.
